About the event

Join us for the FIRST Wild Women Unmasked!

It's an evening of sisterhood, support and connection amongst fellow neurodivergent women in the comfort of the cosy Nurture Yurt.

What to Expect:

  • A cosy space in a large yurt, surrounded by nature. We'll be on yoga mats and cushions on the floor.
  • A maximum of 10 participants - all who identify as neurodivergent.
  • Nature Sensory activity
  • Breathing, grounding and Qi-Gong based movement activities to help connect & reset (no heavy guided meditations!)
  • Offering of herbal tea and biscuits
  • An opportunity to chat, share and discuss what life is like being neurodivergent (but no pressure to share!)

Background:

I (Stef) have been running Wild Women's Circles for over a year and a half and have been open with the women that I am neurodivergent.

After many women started opening up in the circle about being neurodivergent themselves, I had the idea to hold a circle specifically to address the unique challenges, joys and eccentricities that those of us who are neurodivergent experience.

I also work for a charity supporting many neurodiverse individuals and have specific training in this area, along with mental health and trauma-skilled training.

Unsure if this group is right for you? Read the FAQ's below...

FAQ's:

What do you mean by "Neurodivergent"?

Someone who is neurodivergent has a brain that functions and processes information differently from the majority of the population. Most people who consider themselves to be neurodivergent are on the Autism spectrum (ASD), or have Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, or Dyscalculia, but it can also cover other conditions such as Tourettes Syndrome, OCD, or Intellectual Disability.

Do I need to have an official diagnosis?

No. Although I want this group to be for those who truly are neurodivergent, I know that the reality is that most women go undiagnosed for many years! I will not be requesting to see medical proof of anything. You are welcome to attend if you have a diagnosis, you're exploring a diagnosis (which the circle might help you with) or if you self-identify as having a neurodivergent condition. If you suspect, but are still questioning whether you are neurodivergent, attending this circle might also be very helpful to you.

What do you mean by "Unmask"? What if I can't do that?

Many neurodivergent people hide their natural behaviours and conform to what is neurotypical in order to fit in with society and not be judged - this is called "masking".

ND Women are even more prone to masking, and it can be truly exhausting. This is why I wanted to create a space where ND women don't feel the need to mask, because they are in a supportive space with other people who live with similar experiences, where they do not need to feel embarrassed. That being said, you are not required to "unmask" or be vulnerable within the circle. Just come and listen and relate, with no pressure to share or participate if you don't feel comfortable to.

What if I have a mental health condition, like anxiety or depression?

Although many neurodiverse people struggle with their mental health, this circle is not aimed at supporting those who ONLY have a psychiatric condition, and not a developmental or neurological condition, like those listed above. Some people with life-long anxiety disorders do consider themselves to be neurodivergent - it's worth looking at how your experience compares to those with the other conditions above to see if this circle would be the right fit for you.

Why is this circle for Women only?

Because girls and women's experiences of being neurodivergent is often VERY different from a man's, and I wanted to create a space where women could feel truly feel safe to "unmask" and talk about these shared experiences.

If you're still unsure if this group is suitable for you, or have any other questions or concerns, please just reach out to me and we can discuss further: stef@oakandwildflower.com

I want this circle to be inclusive, so I'm happy to work with you to help you feel as comfortable as possible so that you can attend!
